Let's meet Juan Antonio Mann. This expert tennis player obtained the Coqui Bowl Title in 1989 in Puerto Rico. At this time, he announced he would do great things. Hanna Gabriel has been representing Costa Rica on a professional level for seventeen years of her life. That is incredible considering that Hanna is only 27 years old. Her athletic career began at the age of when she was introduced to the world of track and field. However, at the age of eighteen she was forced to retire her Olympic dream due to physical injury and her parents' financial problems. Because Hanna weighed almost 200 pounds, Leslie encouraged her to meet him at the boxing gym. He wanted his daughter to lose weight in order to avoid health complications. Hanna walked into the gym and fell in love with the sound of competition all over again. Eventually, she decided to Ieave work and dedicate her time to training. From that moment, she became a prominent boxer and an outstanding athlete, too.

About one thousand Costa Rican athletes were selected to compete for a spot in the first-ever Central American and Caribbean Special Olympic Games in Costa Rica in 2008. Narrowing down the list of people's names after 16 competitions around the country, national judges had observed the athletes at the National University's Sports
Center, El Palacio de los Deportes and the downtown streets of Heredia. Then, those judges chose the top 220 athletes who made up a national team that confronted the others during the different competitions.
Starting at 9:00 a.m., the national finals included weightlifting, running, five-a-side soccer, cycling, swimming, gymnastics and a triathlon. According to Costa Rica's Special Olympics communications and marketing director M6nica L6pez, the Costa Rican team went on to face competitors from throughout Central America and the Caribbean as well as Mexico and China from November 24 to November 30. The November games were the first in the region, adding to the broader Latin American tournament. The last game played in El Salvador, in 2006 of The Special Olympics, was dedicated to the country's former president, Oscar Arias who "gave special support to the national disabled athletes," said López.

Erick, a 33-year-old swimmer and the oldest son of Eliécer Zumbado and Aracelly Mora, was happy when he received the news that he would be one of the five new members of the Costa Rican Sports Hall of Fame. After work, he goes to Barreal de Heredia to train from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., swimming 3 700 meters. He began swimming at the age of 14, in 1989, when his parents decided to enroll him in a
recreational swimming program in Heredia. Without realizing it, they were setting out on a road of success for the entire family. "Knowing that Erick had Down syndrome was very painful because it was something unexpected. We were overwhelmed at first, but we faced it," Mrs. Mora remembered.
