What is a learning disability ?It is defined by the UK Department of Health as “significant reduced ability to understand new or complex information, to learn new skills (impaired intelligence), with a reduced ability to cope independently (impaired social functioning), which started before adulthood”.
In the UK, around 1.5 M people are affected.
People with learning disabilities
will find it harder to understand, learn and remember new things,
may have problems with a range of things such as communication, being aware of risks or managing everyday tasks.
