My Assessment Goals
- Assessments should drive the curriculum.
- Authentic Assessment
- Assessments should give the
teacher information to know what
needs to be taught in the
classroom. The assessment should
show the teacher the exact areas
that the students still needs help
on.
- In my classroom, I use the assessments
to determine what I will do in my small
groups for the following week.
- Assessments should be taught.
- Authentic Assessment
- With any assessment, a student
must be taught the content of
the test, but it's rare for the
students to be taught HOW to
take the test. With Authentic
Assessment, the goal is for the
students to know what to
expect on the test so that they
can figure out the best way to
show their understanding of
the content.
- I believe that is important
for my students to always
know what I am expecting
of them, but I believe it is
especially important for
my EL students. They have
to know exactly what they
are expected to know in a
clear and concise way. By
teaching the students not
only the content but what
I am expecting from them
on the test, I am giving
them every opportunity to
succeed. .
- Assessments should be a direct measure.
- Authentic Assessment
- The assessment that the
students take should
indicate their strengths
and weaknesses. The
assessment should also
connect the students
with experiences they
may experience in the
"real world".
- I use this part of authentic assessment to show my students how their words and skills will be needed for the rest of their school career.
- Assessments should align with standards.
- Authentic and Traditional
Assessment
- With any lesson, a
teacher should first look
at the standards that
they are expected to
teach. With EL students,
they are often behind,
however, it is still our job
to teach them grade-level
content in a way that
they understand.
- Before creating a lesson, I
always look to the
standards to ensure that I
am teaching my students
the information that they
need to know.
- Assessments should not be biased to one type of student.
- Authentic Assessment
- When using a traditional
assessment, it is the same no
matter who the student is. With
Authentic Assessment, we create
assessments that are based on
what each individual student
knows. They also have the
opportunity to show an answer in
multiple ways.
- I believe that it is not fair to
expect every student to show
their answers in the exact same
way. With authentic assessment,
I can create an assessment that
allows the student to show their
knowledge in a way that suits
them best while still
demonstrating their
understanding.
