EDITING TIPS: A MUSIC VIDEO
- ADDING THE MUSIC
- Adding the song to your music video is
obviously a very important part of the
editing process.
- Depending on what
application you're
using you need to
make sure you can
add the music
where you want it
and crop it where
needs be.
- Make sure the
music is LOUD and
a clear,
downloaded
version of the
video. DO not
record the song
from a phone as
this sounds tacky
and unclear.
- Make sure when adding
the song, you have added
the right version and that
the application has not
affected the quality.
- Adding the song to your music video is
obviously a very important part of the
editing process.
- LIP SYNCHING.
- The person lip synching will be recorded
on camera, but its up to the editor to
make sure all lip synching is
accurate.
- When the person in the video lip
synchs, the editing of the music has to
be matched exactly the same. This can
be done by placing the music at the
right time or cutting it where needs be.
- For example, in our music video
when our actress lip synchs 'White
teeth teens' I need to make sure
the music says the exacts same
words at the time, to make it look
accurate and realistic.
- If the lip synching is really not
matching up, you may have to cut that
section of filming, if needs be, make
sure editing is perfected so it looks like
nothing is missing or refilm.
- The person lip synching will be recorded
on camera, but its up to the editor to
make sure all lip synching is
accurate.
- THE CUTS
- When making any cuts in the footage, you
need to make sure what follows before and
after the cut section can still flow. Otherwise
it just looks messy.
- When cutting a section,
make sure you still save it
and don't delete it
completely, in case it needs
to be added back or you
realise it could look good
later on.
- Make sure you keep all footage even
if you think it was terrible as you
may people able to cut certain bits
from it to make the piece flow.
- When making any cuts in the footage, you

- EXTRA TIPS
- Any special effects must be
edited well into the piece, if
they stand out or look out of
place it will ruin the video, so it
is best to play around with
different effects.
- If footage is dark, you could use
an app to lighten the video, but
be careful it only adjusts it
slightly as you don't want it to
look odd.
- Accept any feedback on your editing as some
people may be able to spot things that are out
of place that you can't see yourself.
- Save any changes you
make and if you are
working for a long time,
keep saving in between as
you don't want to lose any
changes.
- Any special effects must be
edited well into the piece, if
they stand out or look out of
place it will ruin the video, so it
is best to play around with
different effects.
