How far was the new deal successful in ending the depression-effectiveness and limitations
  1. 1- between 1933 -1935 roosevelt had persuaded congress to pass alot of acts
    1. 2- unemployment was beginning to fall and the economy seemed to be recovering
      1. 3- government had never been so energetic to pass in passing laws in peacetimes
        1. 4- also never taken so much responsibility for the running of the economy or for peoples welfare
          1. 5-roosevelt faced alot of critisism from people who though his government was doing too muchas well as those who thought the opposite
            1. 6-all activity generated by the new deal appeared to be slowing down so he pushed on with further reforms known as the second deal
              1. 7-succeded in keeping the momentum of the new deal going
                1. 8-election 1936 he was re-elected-opponent Alfred Landon won only 2 states -roosevelt won 46
                  1. 9-1937 with unemployment still at 6 million he decided to cut back on some programs
                    1. 10- result was alarming as country fell back into the depression
                      1. 11-in winter 1937-38 10 million became unemployed-government reacted by increasing expenditure again
                        1. 12-new deal as a whole has provided the conditions for full economic recovery
                          1. 13-yet 1939 buisnesses was still 25% less than it had been in early 1929 and unemplyment was still nearly 10 million
                            1. 14- new deal had stalled by early 1939 and attention was focused on events on europe and asia
