What's Sustainability?
1. Ensure resources that are taken today, but without reducing the ability for people in the future for their needs
  1. Ways of sustainability on land
    1. Small patches cut down
    2. Coppicing
      1. Cutting trees in a way to let them grow back
    3. Not planted close together; avoiding competition
    4. Sticks for support and tubes to stop bugs (herbivory)
    5. Native species, rather than non-native
  2. Overfishing???
    1. decline in some fish species because of overfishing
      1. Mesh size of nets
      2. International agreements
        Common fisheries policy
      3. Fishing quotes
        Limited catch of species of fish
        From scientific study (population size)
Human activities on ecosystems
1. Humans introduced non-native animals, killing the native ones (i.e. grey squirrel)
2. Non native plants compete with native plant species
  1. Eradication programs can be introduced / public follow set of rules
3. Examples
  1. The Galapagos islands
  2. Antarctica
  3. Lake district / Snowdonia national parks
