- To make healthcare more affordable for all Austrlians
- To give all Australians access to healthcare services with priority according to clinical need

- Medicare safety net: reimbursement of 80% of the gap
between the rebate and the charge for non inpatient
services once the relevent threshold has been net. Its a
protective measure to avoid patients having to pay high
medical costs

in public hospitals, pathology tests.
Doesnt include home nursing and
ambulance fees.
- PBS
- PBS introduced to subsidise the cost of a wide range of
medications, providing Australians with vital medications at
affordable prices.
- Privat health insurance
- provides individuals with additional healthcare services than those provided by medicare
- Incentitives= trying to encourage more people to take out private health insurance to reduce the
pressure on pulic healthcare, these schemes reduce the cost of private health insurance to make it
more afforadable.
- Lifetime health cover: encourages people to continue their cover throughout their lifetime. encourages people to take out cover beofre their 31st birthday or for each year they pay an additonal fee.
- Medicare levy surcharge: an additonal 1% charged for medicare for high income earners who do not have private health insurance.
- Private health insurance rebate: austrlian governemnt gives a rebate to help cover the costs of the premium.
