- Rods
- Sensitive to dim light
- Sends signals to the bright when
you are looking at things at night
- If rod cells do not function properly
you have night blindness
- Night blindness can occur if you are short of
vitamin A
- Spread out in the retina
- Cones
- Cones are packed
together
- In a small part of the retina
called the yellow spot
- However they can sense colours of light
- Means we see coloured images
- They cannot sense low light levels at night
- Only sensitive to bright light
