Authentic Assessment
  1. Informal Assessments for ELL's
    1. Ongoing assessments for EB are essential to have a better picture of the students skills as opposed to standardized.
      1. Performance based assessments and portifolio assessments are a great way to be able to assess students. And for students to have their content knowledge to be assessed.
      2. Initial Assessment
        1. Students need to be evaluated and identified as ELL's
          1. Need to know L1 and where students stand there as well
          2. Language profficency
          3. Why Authentic Assessment should be used?
            1. In order for us to measure students and the construction of their knowledge by enabling them to demonstrate their knowledge.
              1. For example with emergent bilinguals using the workshop methos ad asll as assessing them based on what they are doing allows students that are EB to be assessed based on whzt they are doing rather than a defiicet model.
              2. Authentic assessment enables teachers to make sure that the students are able to use the acquired knowledge not just "know the content"
                1. The workshop model allows for students to spend majority of the time demonstrating their knowledge such as writing in this example.
                2. How to create authentic assessment
                  1. Having a rubric for the task.
                    1. Having rubrics allows for students to be assessed and then it used to demonstrate to instructor what the student knows and also where instruction should go from there.
                      1. Allows for EB to be assessed and the for them to even focus on the goals they may have for themsleves which relates to also having students set a goal for themsleves and acquirirng a language,
                    2. What is authentic assessment?
                      1. Assessment that is task driven and that is being used to assess the assessment being done by the students performing the task.
                        1. Traditional vs. Authentic Assessment, authentic assessment drives curriculum because it is used to shape your curriculum and the lessons you develop.
                          1. Teaching Strategies Gold is a form of authentic assessment
                          2. Ongoing Assessment
                            1. Provides feedback on the effectiveness of instruction
                              1. Kid watching and allowing observing students allows for students to be assessed authentically.
