Homeostasis- themaintenance of a constant internal environment
  1. Body Temperature
    1. Temperature at which enzymes work best
      1. 37 C
        1. Too hot
          1. Sweat glands in the skin release more sweat, which evaporates, removing heat energy from the skin
            1. Blood vessels leading to the skin capillaries become wider (dilate) allowing more blood to flow through the skin, and more heat to be lost
            2. Too cold
              1. Muscles contract rapidly (shivering), which needs energy for respiration, some of which releases heat
                1. Blood vessels leading to skin capillaries narrow, letting less blood flow to the skin and conserving body heat
              2. Blood Sugar Level
                1. Provide cells with a constant source of glucose for respiration
                  1. It is controlled by the release and storage of glucose, which is in turn controlled by insulin.
                  2. Water Content
                    1. Controlled to protect the cells to prevent too much water entering or leaving them
                      1. Water is lost through the lungs via breathing, the sking by sweating and the body through urine produced int the kidneys
