PARTS OF SPEECH

Anmerkungen:

• There are eight different parts and each one has a specific role in the sentence. You can find that they are also called called grammar categories or word classes.

1. NOUNS

   Anmerkungen:

   • These name a person, a place, a thing, an idea, a living creature, a quality, or an action.
2. PRONOUNS

   Anmerkungen:

   • They are used instead of a noun, to avoid repeating the noun.
3. VERBS

   Anmerkungen:

   • They describe an action (doing something) or a state (being something).
4. ADJECTIVES

   Anmerkungen:

   • They describe a noun.  They tell you something about the noun.
5. ARTICLES

   Anmerkungen:

   • They are used to introduce a noun.
6. ADVERBS

   Anmerkungen:

   • These words usually describe a verb. They tell you how something is done. They may also tell you when or where something happened.
7. PREPOSITIONS

   Anmerkungen:

   • They usually come before a noun, pronoun or noun phrase. They join the noun to some other parts of the sentence.
8. CONJUNCTIONS

   Anmerkungen:

   • They join two words, phrases or sentences together.
9. INTERJECTIONS

   Anmerkungen:

   • They often stand alone. Interjections are words which express emotion or surprise, and they are usually followed by exclamation marks.
