Why did Nazi support grow 1929 - 32?
- Use of Propaganda
- Josef Goebbels produced posters, cartoons,
newspapers that all promoted the Nazi's messages.
Also, made brilliant use of new innovations like radio
to publicise Hitler's speeches and ideas. Coordinated
large public events and parades to impress people &
show strengths
- Intimidation
- SA/Brownshirts, led by Ernst Rohm by 1930
numbered 400,000. They offered order in some
peoples minds and disrupted political opponents -
damaging their appeal
- Wall Street Crash (1929) and the
Great Depression
- unemployment, poverty, desperation:
people thus more willing to listen to
extreme ideas
- Also, caused loss of faith in
Weimar and democracy (people
remembered hyperinflation)
- Hitler's personal appeal
- fiery speaker
- ideas about
Versailles welcomed
- offered a 'strong
man' figure
- Unite Germany and make her strong again
- Some big business men and industialists
supported Adolf Hitler because they shared his
hatred and fear of communism. eg. Benz and
Krupps. In turn they fund newspapers, campaigns
etc.
