- 3. THE BATTLE OF BALAKLAVA, 25th OCTOBER 1854
- 1. The British marched to BALAKLAVA
- 2. The British were very close to SEBASTAPOL
- 3. THE SEIGE OF SEBASTAPOL HAD BEGUN
- Stopped Russian supplies entering
- 4. The Russians decided to attack BALAKLAVA
- 5. THE RUSSIANS ADVANCED ON THE BRITISH LINE - The 93rd HIGHLANDERS fired volleys of
musket shots in the unusual formation REPORTED BY WILLIAM RUSSEL SAYING 'a thin red
streak tipped with a line of steel'
- THIS BECAME 'THE THIN RED LINE'
- 6. Following day it was the turn of the LIGHT BRIGADE
- 1. RAGLAN issued a poorly explained command to
LORD LUCAN - He told LUCAN to "CAPTURE THE
GUNS"
- 2. When Captain Nolan gave the message to LUCAN it was MISUNDERSTOOD
- 3. LUCAN SENT THE LIGHT
BRIGADE DOWN A VALLEY
WHERE THEY WERE TRAPPED
AND SURROUNDED BY RUSSIAN

They waited on high ground just south of the ALMA
RIVER
