  1. Autocratic Leadership
    1. Someone who makes all the key decisions in a business
      1. Definition: Tells others what to do without consulting them.
        1. An Autocratic leader is at the top of the hierachy.
          1. If leadership is good, the business can be very successful because the leader has high power over everyone else
            1. Some workers may leave as they want to have some responsibility in the business but can't.
            2. Paternalistic Leadership
              1. Definition: Like an autocratic leader makes all the decisions but takes into account the welfare of workers in making decisions.
                1. They are like an autocratic leader because they make decisions and expect them to be carried out. Workers have no say in any decision making.
                  1. When these leaders make decisions, they have the welfare of their workers in mind.
                    1. As many decisions benefit the workers, they remain loyal and motivated.
                    2. Persuasive and democratic Leadership
                      1. Shares some of the decision making with subordinates.
                        1. They make decisions alone but then persuade their workers to agree with them through discussion.
                          1. Workers in this leadership are more motivated because they feel involved in the decision making.
                            1. On the down side, decision making can take longer as the leader has to spend time persuading their workers.
                            2. Consultative and democratic Leadership
                              1. These leaders consult others for their opinions before making any final decisions.
                                1. More time will be taken to make a decision as the leader has to consider other peoples views but workers will feel more motivated with a better and more effective leader.
                                  1. Frequent meetings could be held to gather the opinions of workers and this has been shown to motivate workers and they feel more respected. Therefore, less staff are likely to leave.
                                  2. Laissez-faire Leadership
                                    1. Definition: A leader who tends to allow others to make their own decisions and only occasionally makes decisions for others.
                                      1. Laissez-faire = leave it be.
                                        1. This is used to describe a leader who lets the workers get on with their own work.
                                        2. They makes very few decisions. They allow workers under them, make their own decisions.
                                          1. Too much responsibility can leave workers feeling as though no cares or knows what is going on.
                                            1. This leadership is generally beneficial as the work environment is happier but sometimes a little more sense of direction is needed.
                                            2. Democratic leader: A leader who seeks the views of other workers before making a decision.
