Unit 19: "Investments"
1. The Stock Exchange.
  1. Capital is the money which can be invested in a business to make profits.
  2. Broker is a person who can buy and sell shares in a company for you.
2. Financial Language.
  1. Bull market is a market in which the share prices are going up.
  2. Bond is an amount of money borrowed by a government or organization with a promise that it will pay the money back with interest at a fixed time.
  3. Volatile is an adjective that describes a situation that is likely to change, therefore it's unreliable.
unit 20: "Starting Up"
1. Business Support.
  1. If you obtain the money which you need to start your business, then you raise capital for it.
  2. When someone lends you money, you have to promise to give them something. When you do this, you secure a loan.
2. Which/who/that/where Clauses.
  1. There he discovered the healthy smoothies which/that were on a sale at the juice bar.
  2. They were 3 friends who/that often talked about setting up a business.
  3. The company bought a bottle plant in the UK where they could manufacture the drinks.
3. Time and money vocabulary.
  1. The company has poured/pumped a lot of money into their South American venture.
  2. When you start up a new business, you need to spend a great deal of time on market research and deciding who your customers will be.
Unit 21: "Job Applications"
1. Writing CVs.
  1. A CV is an outline of a person's educational and professional history. One of the most common ways to order the section is like this:
    1. 1.- Personal Details, Education, Employment, Skills, Interests, Personal Profile, References.
2. Online Recruitment.
  1. Many companies and organizations now recruit directly through the internet.
    1. This is quicker and cheaper than paying a recruitment agency.
3. Job Letters.
  1. I am pleased to inform you that...
    1. I regret to inform you that.
Unit 22: "Recruitment"
1. First Conditional.
  1. If you spend some time doing this homework, the interview is much more likely to be successful.
  2. If they have relevant experience, we know they can do the job.
2. Hiring and Firing.
  1. If you give someone a job, you recruit them.
  2. Sack=Dismiss.
  3. Take on=Recruit.
3. Second Conditional.
  1. If your company makes you redundant, what will you do?
Unit 23: "Staff Development"
1. Training vocabulary.
  1. Factor, credibility, revolutionise, hesitate.
2. Sports Vocabulary in Business Situations.
  1. Kick off=Start a meeting or process.
  2. Race against time=Something that has to be done quickly meet the deadline.
Unit 24: "Staff facts and figures"
1. Draw Conclusions.
  1. A majority of staff members said that they received too many e-mails.
  2. A majority of staff members felt that the e-mails were a major source of stress.
2. Reported Speech.
  1. Staff said that people used the urgent icon too much.
  2. Staff said that the e-mails were often unclear.
