their views to the people. In ww1, used
to bring its citizens to fight in the war
- Black propaganda - involves lies
- White propaganda - selects from the truth

- Persuasive and put everywhere
- some had positive messages
- eg. soldiers cantering to victory
- some had negative messages
- eg. comparing an evil german nurse to you
- makes you feel guilty and angry - puts in your head that you would do a better job
- Home Front
- The land of the home country where
actions that contribute to the war take
place - even if the actions arent fighting
- Total war -
everyone/everything is
effected by war
- The econmy
- many people were actually
better off during the war
- many people were getting 2 amounts of
wayges and had a constant amount of food
- As a result, prices rose
- the cost of the war put
enormous trains on the
government too
- Freedom
- The government passed a 'law' in
order to arrest anybody accused of
helping the opposition
- Soon being used to stop anyone criticing the government
- newspapers were censored (checked)
so they only said what they were
allowed to say
- In may ways, these
things took away the
publics freedom of
speech
- working women
- as so many men were away fighting, the factories,
farms and businesses found it difficult to produce what
was needed
- It turned out , these factories were busier than ever due to the women
- munition factories

- as well as caring for
family/ house
- on farms
- women were the secret weapon that won the war
- 1914 - 200,00 women employed
- 1918 - 950,000 women employed
- Life for women changed dramatically during the
war because so many men were away fighting.

- steps to war:
- 1)assassination of franz ferdinand, arch duke
- 2)Britain, France, Germany and Russia all building up their armies

anything to start one
- 3)Austria declares war
- Austria sent Serbia an ultimatum
Anmerkungen:
- ultimatum - meet these demands or we will declare war
- 4)Russia mobilises - they knew they were too weak to go to
war, but decides to help Serbia as they are allies
- 5)Germany attacks

- they are ready to fight and want to claim land back
- Effects of the war
- Only 12 villages/towns in the UK hadn't lost a
young man due to the fighting
- Germany surrenders 11:00 on 11th November
- Thousands left grieving
- Hundreds of soldiers never got back to being themselves again
- scared from what they have experienced
