e.g. murder and victimless crimes
such as drug offences

give reliable date on
less frequent crimes
e.g. sexual assault and
rape
- Most types of corporate crimes, enviromental crime
and offences regulated by organisations other than
the police are not included
- People living outside households aren't included e.g. prisoners ans
homeless but they are likely to have hiigher rates of victimisation
- Respondants may not know about all incidents in the household
- Telescoping may take place - believe
incidents happened in past 12 months but
really happened before
- Respondants mat deliberately
withhold infomation or forget about
the incident
