Mesopotamia
- Spirtual
- Archaeology has contributed to our understanding of the
spiritual beliefs of Sumerians by showing us a tomb with a
king lying on a stone table with 70 followers all with goblets of
poison in their hands, lined up facing their king. Around the
followers are more goblets, jewels, paper, and other things believed
to help them in the after life
- The belief in afterlife is very important because it
encourages people to make good, smart decisions in
their first life so they will have a better second life
- Citizens of Mesopotamia were wiling to pay
taxes with their labour because they thought that
their afterlife would be better and that the gods
would like them more
- Inventions and technology
- Different occupational options for ancient
Mesopotamians included potters, builders,
traders, priests and of course farmers.
- Some of Mesopotamias best inventions
include the wheel, 60 second minute, the
calendar, Cuneform (writing on a clay tablet
with a stylus), mudbricks, government and
education.
- Specialization in writing has
contributed to civilization by allowing
are ancestors to record history,
trades, stories, recipes, and allowing
us to do the samethings plus more.
- Farming
- Farming in Mesopotamia or modern day Iran and Iraq was
possible because of the nice warm climate so the people, plants
and animals wouldn't freeze. Easy access to fresh water so
plants, people and animals had plenty to drink. Finally fertile soil
so the plants would actually grow and the soil was so good in
Mesopotamia that it is sometimes called the fertile crescent.
- As Mesopotamia started farming more and
more they realized that they needed a tool to
help them harvest and plow fields faster.
That's when Mesopotamians invented the
plough, which is pulled by a ox and turns over
soil. The other tool was a flint sickle, which
was used to cut stalks of corn and heads of
wheat, it was like a sword for farming.
- Farming allowed people to specialize, or in other words it
allowed non-farmers to invent, trade, and build
communities.Farming is the reason that we have what we have,
do what we do, and live the way we want to.
