    1. develops as result of viral infx - HIV, Epstein Barre (mono), M. pneumoniae, campylobacter jejuni, H. influenzae, CMV
    2. CM's
      1. initial - lower extr. muscle weakness/decr reflexes
        1. progresses upwards to hands, diaphragm (can result in resp failure)
        2. DX
          1. recent viral illness, elevated proteins in CSF
          2. Meds/Treatment
            1. IVIG (tx of choice) & plasmapheresis
