Kuelap
- It was built by the Chachapoyas. Known also as the “Warriors of the Cloud”, they were Pre-Incan
people living in the cloud forests of what is today the Amazonas Region of Peru.
- Kuelap was built around the sixth century A.D. It's one of the largest ancient stone monuments in the
New World, and is located 3,000 meters above sea level
- It has been thought that the Chachapoyas were conquered by the Incas sometime in the second half
of the 15th century. Kuelap, however, seems to have been left alone by the Incas, and the
Chachapoyas continued to live there.
- The Peruvian government intend to develop it as a tourist destination, so the use of cable cars has
been implemented to transport visitors to the site.
- The impressive stone walls and the hundreds of circular ruins remain at the site in Peru, as if time itself
was unable to completely beat the ancient Warriors of the Cloud.
