- How A Microwave works.
- A microwave has a magnetron
that produces microwaves. These
waves travel through a wave
guide that turns on a stirrer. The
bounce off the walss until tehy
get in the food.
- Water molecules are dipolar (have a positive and negative end).
They act as tiny magnets and are pulled one way then the other. This
causes friction between the water molecules, which produces heat.
- Has been around since 1945
- To prevent from burning yourself remember foods can create hot
containers, items can explode. lifting the cover can cause a burn,
and hot steam escaping can cause a burn
- Techniques
- Stirring- To pull heated part of food to he center.
- Turning Over- To microwave both sides
- Standing Time- To allow the foods to complete its cooking.
- Shielding- Small pieces of foil used to cover wings or legs of poultry
- Covering- A.) Retains Nutrient. B.) Holds in moisture C.) To make cooking even
- Arrange Food in circular shape- to male cooking even
- Rotating- Makes cooking even
- Pricking- To keep from exploding
- Select Foods of the same size- Cooks eveny

- Microwaves cannot go
through metal, but can go
through glass, ceramic,
plastic, and paper.
- Steam can build up
inside microwaves
and cause food to
explode.

steam escape.
