Power and Authority
- Power - the ability to
control or command
people, if necessary
against their will, in order
to get something done
- Authority - power given to someone to
take command on the behalf of others.
It is usually accepted by the majority of
people
- Power and authority can
exist without the other:
- A bomb-wielding terrorist may
have power but not authority
- A teacher might have
authority without genuine
power
- A police officer in a tactical
firearms unit may have power and
authority
