DNA Replication
- DNA Replication commences at the Origin and is semi-conservative.
- 1. DNA Helicase unwinds the DNA strand at the replication fork.
- 2. DNA Primase (RNA primer) creates a primer on the leading and lagging strands.
- 3. DNA Polymerase III adds free nucleotides to the leading and lagging strand
- 4. On the lagging strand Okazaki fragments are produced. DNA Polymerase I exerts exonuclease activity on the Okazaki fragments and removes the primer
- 5. DNA Ligase seals the nick between the fragments on the lagging strand.
- OriC in prokaryotes
