Now what about that pesky mucho/poco business?
- Cuánto or Cuánta = How much
- If a word ends in -o, you will use "Cuánto" to ask how much
- Cuánto dinero = How much money (notice that they both end in O!)
- If a word ends in -a, you will use "Cuánta" to ask how much
- Cuánta
- Cuánta tarea = How much homework (notice that they both end in A!)
- Plural
- Cuántos/Cuántas = How MANY
- If a word ends in -os, you will use "Cuántos" to ask how many.
- Cuántos años tienes = How many years do you have?
- Notice both the "cuántos" and "años" end in -OS. You are
essentially matching the endings!
- If a word ends in -as, you will use "Cuántas" to ask how many.
- Cuántas fichas? = How many notecards?
- Notice that both the "Cuántas" and "fichas" end in -AS.
You are, once again, essentially matching the endings!
- What about "mucho" (a lot) and "poco" (little, few)?
- It works the same!
- Mucho.poco trabajo = A lot of/ a little bit of work (both end in O. You are MATCHING THE ENDINGS)
- Mucha/poca tarea = A lot of/ a little bit of homework (both words end with an A.)
- Muchos/ pocos alumnos = A lot of/ few students (both words end with an OS.)
- Muchas/ pocas alumnas = A lot of/ few female students (both words end with an AS.)
- Try it! Would you put mucho, mucha, muchos, or pocos for the following words?
