- Decision making
- I had to decide
what clothes
went on the
fixtures. when i
was left to do a
feature wall by
myself, i had to
decide what
items when
where and how
to display them
to make the
customers
drawn in to buy
them.
- To be a visual merchandiser to need to be able to think on
your feet and plan how to are going to do a feature wall.
You need to know what sells in the store and what
doesn't.You need to make sure you decide carefully and
choice the right option as it could end up being the wrong
oone and lose you sales which could lead you getting in trouble.
- Organisation
- while on my placement i had to organise
the stock room to make sure it was all
clean and tidy to make it easier to put
stock out. I also refreshed the shop floor
to make sure that all the sizes we needed
was on the shop floor. Shadowing my
buddy Stef while on placement thought
me to write down everything that needs to
be done eeeach day which made able to
plan what was needed to do each day and
make me much more organised.
- You need to be organised on
any job you going into this is
because you need to make
sure you are on track and
have a clear head when you
are busy and are finding
yourself with something to
always do. So i need to make
sure that every task is done
and meant i have expanded
on my organisation skills
from my work placement
which i can take away with
me to any job.
- Team work
- Being on my work placement it has helped me
to developed and expand on my team work
skills they taught me that getting tasks done
quickly is to do it together, the whole time while
being on work placement I was working in a
team this is because we was moving fixtures
and fittings which was needed to be done
together as a team which helped me to work
together in a team and how to communicate
together as a team. i also worked as team to
build the new store which allowed me to
communicate and work together as part of a
team to get the store done in time and get
everything ready for the press day.
- In your career, you will always have to
at some point work in a team or even
with a partner along side of you.this is
key this is because you can both give
your opinions on what you have to do
to get the work done quickly to the
best standard you can give.
- Flexibility
- while being on
placement i wasn't only
able to do visual
merchandising i was
able to do many
different tasks that they
needed me to do such
as doing shop floor
work if they had short
staff. i also came in
early every morning
and stayed late to help
out if they needed me.
- Being flexible in your job is always
a good skill to have this is because
9 times out of 10 you will be asked
to put in some more hours which
will always look good on you.
Being a Visual merchandiser
means you will have to do a lot of
early mornings, late nights and
even night shifts to get the visuals
done.
- Meeting deadlines
- Being on placement meant i was
able to develop my time
management skills, my buddy
taught me that making a list of
everything that needs to be done
and when it needs to be done also
while being on placement we had
to move stock around on the shop
floor to make space for the new
stock coming in delivery read to in
time for the store to be opened at
half 9 I found that this helped me
because now I can meet deadlines
under pressure.
- In any job you have to need to keep to
deadlines and to be able to hand in work in on
time or make a meeting in time and not be
late, you always need to be on track with what
you are doing and make sure you are not
falling behind.Meeting deadline makes you
look good in front of you boss which could lead
to promotions and bonuses
