- Could be used to graze animals or to
get wood for fires or thatch a roof
- People depended on common land!
- Villagers had common
rights - lived and worked
together = community spirits
- This made their lives a little bit easier - boosted spirits
- BUT - if a couple of people were inefficient, it
could bring down the entire system in that area
- In 1700 - 50% of people in
England still using Open Field
- Because it's mostly found
where the land is flat
- The land of England is flat and this
system concentrated on arable farming
as opposed to pasture farming
