Hormones and Nerves
- Hormones
- Hormones are chemicals secreted by
endocrine glands in the body. Different
hormones affect different target organs.
- Ovary
- oestrogen
- ovaries, uterus
- progesterone
- uterus
- pancreas
- insulin
- liver
- testies
- testosterone
- male reproductive organs
- Slower message
- Act for a long time
- more general way
- chemical message
- endocrine system
Anlagen:
- Nerves
- Neurons transmit information all around the body
- neurons have branched endings called dendrons to connect with other neurons.
- the electrical impulse is passed along the axon of the cells
- there's a myelin sheath along the axon that acts as an
electrical insulator, it stops impulses getting lose. it
also speeds up electrical impulses
- there are three types
- sensory neurone
- carry signals from receptors to the
spinal cord and brain
- Relay neurone
- carry messages from
one part of the CNS
to another.
- Motor neurone
- carry signals from the CNS to
effectors.
- Synapse (tiny gap)
- signals cross this gap using chemicals
released by a neurone
- an electrical signal travels along the axon
- the nerve-ending of the neuron releases chemical messengers
called neurotransmitters. They bind with receptor molecules on the
membrane of the next neuron.
- Very Fast message
- very short time
- very precise area
- electrical message
- neurone
