- Shanghai Massacre (1927)
- As Chiang went to attack Shanghai,
communists inside led a rebellion against
the warlord and gained power
- Chiang arrived a few days later and
killed all the communists
- 1000 arrested, 300 executed, 5,000 missing
- All communists in Guangzhou also killed
- Communists retreated to Jiangxi and
Hunan provinces in countryside
