Networking
- Ring Network: In a ring network each device is connected to two other devices, this forms a ring for the signals to travel around.
Each packet of data on the network travels in one direction and each device receives each packet in turn until the destination
device receives it. Basically every device in a ring network is connected to 2 other devices, making everything connected in a
ring network.
- Ring Network
- Data transferred quickly
- Fast usage
- If one device fails all device fails.
- No data collisions.
- Star Network In a star network each device on the network has its own cable that connects to a switch or hub.
A hub sends every packet of data to every device, whereas a switch only sends a packet of data to the
destination device.
- Star Network
- Cheap to install
- Very expensive
- If hub fails all fails
- In a bus network all the workstations, servers and printers are joined to one cable, the bus. At each end
of the cable a terminator is fitted to stop signals reflecting back down the bus.
- Bus Network
- Cheap to install
- involves less cabling.
- In the main cable fails all fails
- Disasters
- Disaster recover contains 3
elements
- Prevention
- Detection
- Correction
- Even if a disaster occurs a data backup should be in
place. eg Cloud storage.
- Firewalls needs to be in place, this boosts up
the security of a network.
- The door of a server should be locked so that intruders cant come in
and hack the server etc.
- Backing up you system every day
- Acceptable use.
- Everyone has their own access levels in a server.
- Eg in a school students, teachers and administrators have
their own restrictions admin having all the controls.
- Acceptable use is basically the rules in a network.
- Acceptable use includes.....
- Using polite language online
- Not reavealing personal details.
- Not using a network for sending unsolicited
- Sending offensive documents or messages.
- Not using the network for personal commercial purposes EG facebook
- Not downloading programmes.
