making. In Ancient Athens, all adult
male citizens gathered to discuss and
vote on important issues
- Women and slaves did not count.
- This can't work in large societies, so instead
we have indirect or representative
democracy
- People vote for members of
parliament to represent them in
discussions and voting
- Candidates at general elections belong to political
parties, and the party that has the most members
of parliament usually forms the government
