Reactions of Acids
- whenever acids react with anything, a salt is always formed
- salt's name: name of metal, variation of the acid that reacted to make it
- acid + metal -> salt + hydrogen (gas)
- H+ + OH- → H2O
- hydrogen from the acid and hydroxide ion from the alkali form to make carbon dioxide
- acid + alkali -> salt + water
- acid pH < 7
- alkali pH > 7; AND IS SOLUBLE
- salt endings
- hydrochloric acid -> ... chloride
- sulphuric acid -> ... sulphate
- nitric acid -> ... nitrate
- if it gains electrons, it is -
- if it loses electrons, it is +
