Women's Movement.
- Cult Of Domesticity
- The Cult of Domesticity was the
idea of how the home life was
supposed to be set up in order to
be "proper." It mainly focused on
what women's ideals and duties
should be. This was popular in the
19th century.
- The ideals and
duties of women
were supposed to
revolve around piety,
purity, domesticity,
and submissiveness.
- Piety meant that
women were to be
faithful to their god.
Purity meant they were
to not have child out of
wedlock and not give
in to temptation of
man. Submissiveness
mainly regarding their
acts towards their men
and their choice of
clothing. Domesticity
meant to keep the
women at home doing
'womenly' duties.
- This idea was everywhere, even books, such as
"Godey's Lady's Book."
- Susan B. Anthony/Elizabeth Stanton
- Created and hosted the
Seneca Falls convention.
July 19th & 20th, 1848.
- The Seneca Falls Convention was a
convention held in Seneca Falls, NY. It was to
construct the "Declaration of Sentiments."
Which was a women's right's mock of
Declaration of Independence.
- From this, Susan B.
Anthony stemmed off her
own women's movement
meetings.
- Elizabeth Cady Stanton was
the leader of the
convention.
- Susan B. Anthony intimidated her way
into voting and was then arrested.
- She had an unfair trail because
women lacked their rights in the
courts.
