Waves
- Definitions
- The movement of energy
- Osolation of a medium point
- The electromagnetic
spectrum
- Measurements and equations
- The wavelength is measured in metres (m)
- Frequency is measured in hertz (Hz)
- The frequency of a wave
is the same as the pitch.
- Velocity/speed is
measured in metres
per second (m/s)
- The wave equation:
- V = f x lambda
- Different types of waves that can be used
- Radiowaves
- TV satelites
- microwaves
- Mobile phones
- Infrared radiation
- Remote controls
- Visible light
- colours of the
electromagnetic
spectrum
- Ultraviolet
- Detecting false money
- x-rays
- gamma rays
- Kill cancer cells
- How does our body detect waves?
- Ears- detect sound:
- Sound travels using particles and these particles vibrate, which
means that the ears vibrate and this vibrates the ear drums also. A
signal is then sent to the brain, the brain then detects the sound and
ultimately identifies it.
- Eyes detect light
- Detect light through their wavelength
- The body cannot detect radiowaves, microwaves etc.
- Different types of waves
- Transverse waves
- belong to the electromagnetic spectrum . All waves from the electromagnetic
spectrum have both an electrical and a magnetic part.
- Osolation is 90* to the
direction of travel
- Longitudinal waves
- (Sound) Osolation is in the same direction of travel as
the direction it is travelling in
