1. This poem is about the journey of a ww2 japanise seucide plane diver who made decision to turn back but then this life turned round and everyone rejected him because of his cowardly decision
2. This poem is a story being told to the grandchildren of the pilot by the daughter of the pilot. You know this when the poet writes 'yes grandfathers boat'. This interrupts the flow of the poem hinting that they already know the story like it is a tale being retold.
