Functionalism
1. A Consensus perspective that believes society is like a human body.
  1. The different parts are like organs, each with a part to play that is essential to the health and survival of the whole.
2. Organic Analogy (comparing society to an organism
  1. Families: to socialise children. If families fail to do this, there is a knock on effect in; rising crime
Marxism
1. Conflict perspective they see society as divided by class. There is a conflict of interests between classes, which occasionally takes the form of strikes and other protests.
  1. Bourgeoisie (ruling class)
  2. Proletariat ( working class)
2. Marxists believe that the working class will eventually rise up and have a revolution, overthrowing the ruling class resulting in a communist society.
  1. Where all resources are shared equally
Feminism
1. Conflict perspective like Marxists, they see society as being divided, but rather it is between the sexes.It is men who rule society and who have the power in most social situations, relationships, families.....
2. Patriarchy; feminists are in favour of equal opportunities for men and women, and of equal relationships in all areas of life
New Right
1. Consensus perspective they tend to favour a return to traditional values.
2. Nuclear families are the best and are against recent developments such as the increase in divorce, cohabitation and lone-parent families.
Interactionism
1. They do not start with society but with individuals. They are interested in what happens when small groups of people are together.
