Standard Form
- Converting numbers to standard form
- The amount of 0's is the number you need to use as a power
- e.g 1 000 000 = 1 x 10^6
- If there is more than one sig. fig. then you need to change the
number into a decimal and add on an extra number to the power.
- e.g. 540 = 5.4 x 10^2
- Minus numbers
- You times it with a minus power
- The amount of 0s after the d.p + 1 is the number for the power
- e.g 0. 000 0006 = 6 x 10^-7
- e.g 1.36 10^-4= 0.000136
- Multiplying Standard Form
- Multiply the coefficients and add the indices.
- e.g (4.5 x 10^4) x (6.45 x 10^5)
- 4.5 x 6.45 = 29.025
- 4+5 = 9
- 29.025 x 10^9
- 2.9025 x 10^10
- Adding Standard Form
- e.g (4.5 x 10^4) x (6.45 x 10^5)
- Convert the numbers into normal numbers then add
- Dividing Standard Form
- Divide the coefficients and subtract the indices.
- e.g (8x10^9) / (2x10^3)
- = (8/2)x10^(9-3)
- 4 x 10^6
- Subtracting Standard Form
- Convert the numbers into normal numbers then
minus them
