- Guidelines to a just war
- 1. Only a legitimate authority can start the war
- 2.There must be just cause for going to war
- 3.The war must be fought for the right intention
- 4. The war must be a last resort
- 5.Civilians must be protected throughout the war
- 6. The war should bring about more good than evil
- Pacifists believe war and violence is wrong no matter what
- e.g. Martin Luther King and Gandhi

- 'Darkness cannot drive out darkness.
Only light can do that. Hate cannot
drive out Hate. Only Love can do that'

- Deterrence - To try to stop other people from committing the same crime
- Protection - To ensure that other people are not harmed by re-offenders
- Retribution - To get even/back at the person who committed the crime
- Reparation/Restoration - to right the wrong that has been committed
- Reformation/Rehabilitation - To change the offender so that they don't commit crimes on the future
