1. 1. The Memorial at the site of the World Trade Center was made in order to commemorate the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11 attack as well as the six who died in 1993 bombing attempt.
    1. The memorial was funded by public donation as well as government grants

1. Key Events of the day
  1. The group Al- Qaeda (established in 1970s) orchestrated the attacks
    1. al-Qaeda were led by Osama Bin Laden who, aloong with Kalid Sheikh Mohammed, orchestrated the atttacks

      2. Two of the main reasons for the attack included support for Israel and U.S sanctions against Iraq
      3. Kalid Mohammed selected the targets for the event
        The Two originally selected as hijackers could fly very poorly and were thus demoted to muscle support
        On the morning of September 11, 19 terrorists took control of 4 commercial airliners
        At 8:46 in the morning, American Airlines flight 11 was crashed into the north tower
        At 9:03 United Airlines flight 175 crashed into the south tower. Half an hour later, another flight was flown into the Pentagon.
        The towers of the world trade center collapsed due to fire and structural damage. Between the Pentagon and the WTC almost 3,00 people died.
By definition, terrorism is the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.
1. This means that people injure or cause fear in others to achieve their political goals
2. One may deduce that terrorism has evolved along with and due to advancements in technology and weaponry. Furthermore, politics around the world are constantly changing.

    1. Today, strategies utilized by terrorists include
      1. Bombings/suicide bombers
      2. Bio weaponry such as poison and other cemicals
      3. Small skirmishes using guns
      4. Hostage taking
  2. Key characteristics of terrorism include utilization of fear tactics, difficulty to supress, and violent tendencies that harm innocent people
Freedom Fighting differs from terrorism in one main way
1. Freedom fighters seek independence and to acquire freedom, land, rights etc. They do not wish to harm innocent people
4 examples of modern terrorist incidents:
1. Boston Marathon bombing
  1. Two bombs were detonated at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. 3 were killed, more then 180 were injured.
2. Two letters containing the poison ricin were sent to president Obama/

  1. letters tainted with anthrax kill 5 people across the US
