    1. Harold Godwinson
      1. Why should he be the next king?
        1. He was English. People would know who was and trusted him because of his nationality
          1. He was the kings brother in law. He had connections with king Edward so people knew he was trustworthy.
          2. Why should he not be the next king?
            1. There is no proof that king Edward wanted him to be king. One of the only people in the room was Edith, Harold's sister and Edwards wife. She wouldn't say that Edward never wanted Harold to be king because she wouldn't want to be disconnected from royalty
          3. Harold hardrada
            1. Why should he be the next king?
              1. Harold Hardrada has had experience being a king since he was the king of Denmark. This is good because he will know what he is doing.
                1. He is skilled at planning and is smart.
                2. Why shouldn't he be the next king?
                  1. He is very forceful and uses force to get things he wants. He fought England by force and not negotiation and respect.
                3. William, Duke of Normandy
                  1. Why should he be the next king?
                    1. King Edward promised him the throne. He should be king because it is what King Edward wanted and all his followers would support Williams claim.
                    2. Why shouldn't he be the next king?
                      1. There is no proof that this was what king Edward wanted. There is no written or recorded proof that Edward promised him the throne.
                        1. He was French. He wasn't originally English and the English people would be against him
