Deforestation
- Scientific Consequences
- Scientist are working and trying to understand
the reason and the link between deforestation,
and the lack of trees all connect to global
warming. But with the constant rate of
deforestation, experiments and research has
been stopped, resulting in the lack of an
answer with could possibly benefit us in the
long run.
- Legal & Ethical
Consequences
- The following laws are in
place and are obligated to be
followed by anyone who has
been given permission to
remove forest's: managing
the forests on its own lands
managing international trade
and relations, enforcing
environmental regulation
(e.g., Species at Risk Act)
coordinating responsibility for
healthy forests increasing
Aboriginal participation
reporting under national and
international obligations
- The following rules are also in action:The Wild
Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of
International and Interprovincial Trade Act prohibits
commercial trade in rare and endangered species
and prevents the introduction of undesirable species
to Canadian ecosystems. The Migratory Birds
Convention Act (MBCA) protects migratory birds,
their eggs and their nests. The Species at Risk Act
provides for the legal protection of wildlife species
and the conservation of biological diversity. The Act
applies to all federal lands in Canada and to all
at-risk wildlife species and their critical habitats.
Most provinces and territories.
- Social Consequences
- Many of the first Nation people have created
history and memories, stories and culture in the
forest's; taking away their first home would be
as if your property was taken away without any
reason other than the fact that someone feels
that, forest's are natural resources and should be
used to their full potential.
- Every year, around our poorly treated planet; millions
of forest's are cut to provide paper and for wood
factories to be provided with wood.
- Farmers, in our own community are one of the main group of people that cause
deforestation. This is because it is a quick and easy way to clear land for crops to be
grown.
- Environmental Consequences
- Deforestation is the cause of
biodiversity to decline. When
forest cover is removed, wildlife is
deprived of habitat and becomes
more vulnerable to hunting.
Considering that about 80% of the
world's documented species can
be found in tropical rainforests,
deforestation puts at risk a
majority of the Earth’s biodiversity.
- Deforestation causes
15% of global
greenhouse gas
emissions. Of these,
carbon dioxide
emissions represent
up to one-third of
total carbon dioxide
emissions released
because of human
causes.
- As a result of deforestation, trees no
longer evaporate ground water, which
can cause the local climate to be much
drier, it also reduces
the protection of the soil from
tree litter.
- Personal Consequences
- Enjoying the great out doors will
soon become a challenge, if half
of our forest's are burnt to the
ground, to make room for
highways, railways, or resorts.
- With green house
emissions skyrocketing;
its no doubt that
deforestation will only
increase global warming;
which is well know to
have a major chain
reaction, as always ends
up affecting each and
every individual directly.
- Soon enough animals will be
forced to leave their natural
habitat which will have a negative
end result for the humans
because with wildlife homeless,
they will take shelter in near by
local parks or our own backyards.
- Economic Consequences
- Not only will tons of money be spent to
clear the forests, but the money to build the
replacement to occupy the space will be
poorly spent due to the fact that there are
more important things to fix in Canada than
creating a new place to relax or another
route to work
