Vietnam 1954-1975 People

Ho Chi Minh- was the leader (Prime Minister from 1945-1955, and President from 1945-1969) of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (later the Socialist Republic of Vietnam). He spent much of his life trying to get the French, who controlled Vietnam, to leave.

General Vo Nguyn Giap- was a General in the Vietnam People's Army and a politician. He first grew to prominence during World War II, where he served as the military leader of the Viet Minh resistance against the Japanese occupation of Vietnam. 

Ngo Dinh Diem- was the first President of South Vietnam. He was overthrown and killed on 2 November 1963 by the South Việtnamese army during the Buddhist crisis. The army then set up a military dictatorship.

President Johnson- was a member of the Democratic Party and the 36th president of the United States serving from 1963 to 1969. He took over from President Kennedy. He also escalated the US involvement in the Vietnam War. As more and more US soldiers were killed in Vietnam, Johnson lost a lot of popularity. 

Richard Nixon- was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974, when he became the only president to resign from office. Nixon had previously served as a Republican U.S. 

Le Duc Tho- was a Vietnamese revolutionary, general, diplomat, and politician. in 1945, he helped lead the Viet Minh, against the French, until the Geneva Accords were signed in 1954. He then joined the Lao DongPolitburo of the Vietnam Workers' Party in 1955.

President Thien- is a Burmese politician and former military commander who has been President of Burma (Myanmar) since March 2011. He was the Prime Minister from 2007 until 2011.

Gerald Ford- was the 38th President of the United States from 1974 to 1977. He is the only president who has not been elected to the office of either President or Vice President.
