Justinian

Justinian ruled from about 527-565. He revived ancient rome by recovering lands that had been over run by invaders. He married Theodora, his co ruler. He also built the Hagia Sophia, that stands at a cultural crossroads where Europe meets Asia and Islam meets Christianity. It is now a museum in the city of Istanbul.

Justinian then organized the laws of ancient rome. The result was "Corpus Juris Civilis" which meant, the Body of the Law. This collection included laws passed by Roman assemblies and it unified the empire. Later monarchs based their laws off of this collection and is still referred to today. It contained 4,000 laws and 1,200 books.
