Seite 1

An easy way to remember volume formulae is to group 3-D shapes into  categories; pointed, linear and spheres.

1. Pointed

- These shapes all have a point or tip

- e.g Cones, triangular-based pyramids, square-based pyramids

- Volume = 1/3 x B x h

B = area of side (base) opposite the tip

h = perpendicular height from base to tip

2. Linear

- These shapes are all 3-D extensions of 2-D shapes.

- e.g Cylinders, cuboids, prisms,

- Volume = B x h

B = area of base

h = height perpendicular to base

3. Spheres

- Volume = 4/3 x π x r^3

r = radius
