Society is divided into 2 parts: INFRAstructure + SUPERstructure

Every society has 2 main groups: Subject + ruling classes

Ruling class kept most of the money and power

Subject class were not aware that they are being exploited

He believed that in a capitalist society, people were divided into two social classes

These classes were determined by economic factors, which for Marx; ownership or non-ownership. Obviously for Marx, ownership is the most important division in society

The bourgeoisie represents the ruling class. Whereas proletariat represents the subordinate or working class

The bourgeoisie are the owners of wealth and property (e.g.factories businesses or land)

The proletariat are the non-owners of the property, so they have to sell their labour in order to survive.
