Beschreibung

This note covers the energy of an electron and energy conversions involved with an electron and its movement. This is best used in conjunction with the mind map on the electron.

The energy associated with electrons is so small that, instead of expressing it in Joules, we use the electronvolt  Symbol = eV

Definition: One electron volt is defined as the energy needed to move an electron (which has an electric charge equal to -1) across an electric potential of 1 volt 1 eV = 1.602 × 10*-19 joules

Energy Conversions An electric field causes an electron to accelerate, giving it kinetic energy Loss in potential energy = gain in kinetic energy

Formula for the energy conversion of a charged particle in an electric field: qV = 1/2mv² q = charge of the particle V = voltage through which the particle is accelerated m = mass of the particle v = velocity of the particle
