After the war Hitler was given an army assignment checking up on political groups. One of which was the German Worker's Party (DAP), a small group founded on 5th January 1919 by Anton Drexler. Hitler joined this group. It only had 40 regular members The entire funds of the party were 7 marks and 50pfennig

The party rallied against... Communists + socialists--> blamed for bringing down Kaiser Weimar politicians who accepted T.O.V weakness of democracies The jews for undermining the German economy

Hitler's role within the party energetic speaker- attracted large no. of people. Membership grew to 1100 in June 1920. Helped create party's 25-Point Programme On 7th August 1920, DAP changed name to National Socialist German Worker's Party (NSDAP)/ Nazi Party. membership increased to 3000 during 1920 = boosted funds for the party--> able to but Volkischer Beobachter for 180,000 marks. --> spread views further. Mid-1921, Drexler pushed aside. In 1921, SA was created; party's private army. Rohm put in charge
