All my sons- the backyard

The importance of setting in All my Sons is important because the characters are re- acting what should of happened to Keller 

Everyone within the household and the neighbours pay a key role with this informal procedure of justice 

1. Keller- he is the main protagonist and is the one who happens to be getting prosecuted in his own backyard  

Backyard- this is where all the action takes place, it is semi formal and is a place for socialising but also a place where neighbours are able to look into. this is also where Keller is prosecuted for his crimes and where the truth surfaces 

Home- the audience and the neighbours never get to see anything beyond the backyard door, in a way we are society as well because we are not allowed in the private sphere of the home , when Keller goes into the house to kill himself we never see what actually happens only what we are told by the media. 

2. Chris- in terms of the informal criminal procedure, he is the judge that sentences Keller to death and exiles him out of his own backyard. Chris has always been the voice of authority that spoke on the behalf of his deceased brother Larry. 

3.  Kate- she happens to be the one that sells Keller out to society for his crimes that he has committed, 'He hasn't been laid up in 15 years."Kate too like George wants to see justice done to Keller, not because he hates Keller but she wants some kind of closure for the death of Larry. 

Jim/Sue/Frank- the neighbours in the play an important role as they are symbolic of society and how they choose to see the crimes that Keller has committed 

The death of Keller- To take his own life could be seen as a way of repenting for his sins so that he too could join Larry to apologise to not only Larry but to all his sons. However the death of Keller could also be a symbol of him being a coward, since his secret was exposed and now he has nowhere to run, he takes his life so that he does not get humilliated by his crimes. because it was done inside the home, society would not have to know the real reason why he killed himself, they might see it as an honarable thing to do
