Convergent Boundaries
Definition:In plate tectonics, a convergent boundary, also known as a destructive plate boundary, is a region of active deformation where two or more tectonic plates or fragments of the lithosphere are near the end of their life cycle.
Divergent Boundaries
Definition:In plate tectonics, a divergent boundary or divergent plate boundary is a linear feature that exists between two tectonic plates that are moving away from each other.
Transform Boundary
Definition:Transform boundaries are places where plates slide sideways past each other. At transform boundaries lithosphere is neither created nor destroyed.
Subduction Zone
Definition:A subduction zone is the biggest crash scene on Earth. These boundaries mark the collision between two of the planet's tectonic plates.
Rift Valley
Definition:A large elongated depression with steep walls formed by the downward displacement of a block of the earth's surface between nearly parallel faults or fault systems
Mid Ocean Ridge
Definition: A mid-ocean ridge is an underwater mountain system formed by plate tectonics.
Trench
Definition:Trenches form when one tectonic plate slides beneath another plate at a subduction zone.
Volcano
Definition:A mountain or hill, typically conical, having a crater or vent through which lava, rock fragments, hot vapor, and gas are being or have been erupted from the earth's crust.
