1. A chronic, noninfectious skin inflammation occurring with remissions and exacerbations, involving keratin synthesis that results in patches; may lead to infection in the affected area, arthritis may develop with changes similar to RA.
2. Possible causes are stress, trauma, infection, hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, autoimmune reaction, climate changes. Certain medications may exacerbate this condition.
3. Koebner phenomenon is the development of these lesions at a site of injury (e.g. scratch or sunburn). Prompt cleansing of the area may prevent of lessen this phenomenon.
4. The goal of therapy is to reduce cell proliferation and inflammation and the type of therapy prescribed depends on the extent of the disease and the client's response to treatment.
