Notes and Clefs
We use notes to represent musical sounds. Notes are symbols that are placed on the lines and spaces of the staff to represent the pitch and duration of a sound. The placement of notes indicates the highness or lowness of their pitch.
Notes are identified using the letters of the musical alphabet: Letters A-G
Clefs, from the french word cle (key), are placed on the staff to define the specific pitch of one of the lines.
Types of clefs:
Treble Clef - also known as the G clef, identifies the second line note G by circling around it.
Bass Clef - Is also known as the F clef, identifies the fourth line as the note F by placing 2 dots on either side of it.
